7 Ways to Stay Warm in Calgary and Still Have Fun

Baby it’s cold outside, so here’s 10 ways to stay warm in Calgary during these winter months, but have fun at the same time.
Catch Marilyn: Forever Young at the Glenbow Museum.  The show is playing at the ConocoPhillips Theatre from until February 22.  Call 403- 268-4110 for tickets.  Marilyn is played by Sunny Thompson who is able to capture the essence of Marilyn as a flawed diamond in the rough.

Visit the Teatro for a delicious “modern Italian” meal created by Chef Dominique Moussu.  Relish in a delicious foie gras ravioli with one of the 850 wines from the cellar.  Plan ahead of time because reservations are hard to get; especially on theatre nights. Teatro was voted the best in fine dining and the best dining overall in Calgary at the 13th Annual Most Memorable Meal Awards.

Check out a Calgary Flames game.  Okay, so it might be a little chilly in the Saddledome, but if you bundle up and scream really loud, you’ll stay plenty warm.  Read more..

Nhl Power Rankings

Power Rankings for this week.  A special thanks to, BlueJacketsHockey

1. San Jose Sharks (26-4-3) 55 points
Yes, I know they lost twice this week and once to the Blue Jackets, but as of now I still think, by a slight edge they are the best in the NHL right now.
2. Detroit Red Wings (22-6-4) 48 points
Yea, they were one of the teams that beat the sharks last week and I know I’ll have some angry Bruins fans, but they beat the best team in the NHL, they gotta be here.
3. Boston Bruins (24-5-4) 52 points
Don’t get me wrong Bruins, I think you are a great team and that you will someday be 1 or 2, but the Wings beat the Sharks last week and I don’t think it’s fair to make the Sharks move from 1 to 3 when right now, they are still the best team in the leauge, but I think that the Bruins may be number 1 in a few weeks to come.
4. Chicago Blackhawks (18-6-7) 43 points
Can you say on fire? I’m not sure the Blackhawks can’t

MONTREAL CANADIENS: The REAL Stanley Cup Champions of 2010 – and Why! Since Lord Stanley gave his Cup for the best Canadian Team – the Real Champions

In 1892, the then Governor General of Canada, Lord Frederick Arthur Stanley, dedicated a Silver Bowl to the people of the Dominion of Canada for, “the champion hockey team in the Dominion.”

The Stanley Cup became the ultimate prize for Canadian hockey teams, awarded first in 1893 to the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (AAA). The cup has been won every year since (except 2005 – the Black Year of the Lockout – when the NHL refused to release the Cup to another League).

In 1919, the Stanley Cup Champions, Montreal Canadiens, traveled to Seattle to play a post-Championship exhibition series with the Seattle Metropolitans. The series was cancelled because of the Great Influenza Epidemic. The Americans still like to refer to 1919 as “no decision.”

In 1926, the National Hockey League “adopted” Lord Stanley’s Cup as their own and have possessed it up to this writing.

Not every Canadian agrees with this

Watch Olympic Hockey Canada Vs. United States Online

The long anticipated USA vs. Canada Mens Ice hockey game has finally arrived at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games and it is sure to live up to the hype. This game is sure to be exciting, because USA and Canada have had one of the biggest rivalries in Olympic Ice hockey history.

Both of these teams have their fair share of NHL players. It can be said that Team Canada is a stronger overall team however Team USA definitely has star power.

Some of the main members of the Team USA Ice hockey team are Nhl’ers Zach Parise and Patrick Kane. Goaltender Ryan Miller is one of the best the NHL has to offer and he will be doing everything he can to make sure that Team Canada doesn’t have it’s way with Team USA. Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas is also a good option for the Americans, who are stacked in the goaltending category. Other notables to look out for on team USA are Phil Kessel, Jamie Langenbrunner and Paul Stastny . With all this firepower it’s easy to

Calgary Flame Burns Bright

As a relatively new country, built on the strength and determination of immigrants, Canada is still seen by people all over the world as a land of opportunity. Since the early days, when European and American settlers first made their homes here, to the modern day economic migrants from Asia, outsiders have flocked to the country in search of a better life.

Moving from a part of the world where everything is familiar, to a new country and culture, is a daunting task and for most people it is a decision that is not taken lightly. The prospect of securing suitable work, making friends, perhaps learning a new language and, of course, finding a home can all be overwhelming for a newly arrived resident.

Since it was established around the turn of the last century, the Alberta city of Calgary has been attracting people from far and wide. Following the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway in the 1880s, the town underwent its first real taste of

Hello From Victoria- Part 1 – Reaching The West Coast

Jetlag is an amazing thing. It’s barely after 5 am and I have already been reading for an hour an a half. So I figured I might as well use this bout of sleeplessness and record my first impressions of British Columbia.

My WestJet flight out of Toronto left a 7:15 am yesterday, so that meant I got up at 4:30 am, after 2.5 hours of sleep, to check all my luggage, eat a brief breakfast and get myself out to the airport. Sometimes a little travel savvy goes a long way, I had decided to use my Airmiles to go to BC and upon doing some research I found out that WestJet had a special on that only required me to use 1600 Airmiles instead of the regular 3900 Airmiles, so off I went and booked the trip, saving myself 60% of the Airmiles that I would have otherwise spent. When you travel frequently, you have to look at every available option of savings costs and my travel reward miles came through big for me.

I was able to book a flight from

NHL: Calgary Flames History

The Calgary Flames are a hockey team in the National Hockey League. The team is based out of Alberta, Canada in Calgary.

The Calgary Flames were founded in 1972. In their conception they were actually not named as the Calgary Flames at all. Their early years took place in Atlanta, Georgia. In their conception they were called the Atlanta Flamers.

The Atlanta Flamers stayed in Atlanta for 8 years. From early on the franchise managed to find a lot of success. In just 8 years the team managed to make the playoffs 6 times. This was incredible for an expansion team. Often times it takes a team several years to find any success at all in the NHL. For example, the Islanders, who were also an expansion team, managed to win only 31 games combined in their first two seasons in the NHL.

Despite making it to the playoffs so frequently, the Atlanta Flamers were not able to find much success early on. In their 6 years of making the
