5 Newmarket Royals Still Active in Pro Hockey For 2009-10

As the Cornwall Royals morphed into the Sarnia Sting in the early 1990′s, they made a two year stop in Newmarket. During the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons, the team was known as the Newmarket Royals. It’s unfortunate that the team didn’t hold out for a few more years and wait for the Barrie Colts to join the league. The Colts and Royals would have made a great geographical rivalry. Out of all the players that donned a Newmarket Royal jersey over the two seasons, 5 are still active in professional hockey.

Alan Letang played in Newmarket for both 1992-93 and 1993-94. He was a true franchise player, playing in Cornwall in 1991-92 and Sarnia in 1994-95. He went on to play a total of 14 games in the NHL, split between the Dallas Stars, Calgary Flames and New York Islanders. Alan was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens. Alan is currently playing in the Austrian Elite League with Zagreb Medvescak KHL.

Ilpo Kauhanen was a Cornwall Royal for two seasons

You And Your Loving Hockey Friends need NHL Hockey Jerseys

NHL jerseys are among the hottest things on the North American market right now. Even professional European hockey jerseys are gaining fast in popularity. Whether you are wearing NHL jerseys from the old days of the National Hockey League or from you present favorite NHL or AHL team, you’ll be on the right track for looking good.

You can, as many already do, pay the high price tag for your NHL jersey at your local hockey goods store or (if you are smart) save a bundle at on line sporting and hockey goods sites. Today there is actually a huge supply of hockey stores on line which all sell quality NHL merchandise.

Web sites probably have the best selection around, not to mention the lowest prices as well. Plus, with today’s high security features that the top sites have these days, you no longer have to worry about identity theft or fraud as much. At least I don’t when I shop on line.

NHL jerseys are possibly the top

Chicago Blackhawks Tickets – Hawks Squawk To A Second Loss Before Break

The loss to St. Louis wasn’t just a loss, it was a clean sweep with St. Louis taking home 2 points and not allowing the Hawks to score at all. Of course, the Hawks don’t have to walk away angry with their holdings on 10th place in the league with 25 wins, 12 losses and 8 OTs. Moreover, the Hawks have fourth place nicely situated for themselves with San Jose, Detroit and Calgary ahead in the western conference where the Hawks have 58 points.

The active roster certainly isn’t marred by injured players on reserve. Active team forwards include Craig Adams, Dave Bolland, Troy Brouwer, Adam Burish, Dustin Byfuglien, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Martin Havlat, Patrick Kane, Andrew Ladd, Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Towes, and Kris Versteeg. Active team defensemen include Cam Barker, Brian Campbell, Nklas Hialmarsson, Aaron Johnson, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Brent Sopel, Matt Walker and James Wiesniewski. Guarding the goals are active goalies Cristobal Huet and Nikolai

Calgary Flames players, including Miikka Kiprusoff and Jarome Iginla, are introduced at ScotiaBank Place in Ottawa on February 9, 2010. Notice the nice crowd reaction for Iginla and Kiprusoff whereas Stajan, a former Maple Leaf, get booed!

Edmonton Oilers Hockey Trivia of the 1980s

In the mid to late 1980s, from 1984-1989, the Edmonton Oilers won 4 out of 5 Stanley Cups. They were led by The Great One’s Wayne Gretzky. Joining Gretzky were many other great players including Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Kevin Lowe, Glenn Anderson, and Grant Fuhr.

The Oilers were absolutely dominant as they won the Cup in 1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988. Gretzky won the Art Ross award 7 straight times. He also won many Hart Trophies. He broke the record for most assists and most points in a season. He would reset the assists record 3 more times and the record for most points once more.

It was amazing to watch the Edmonton Oilers as they skated circles around their competition during their dominant years. The Oilers came very close to beating the Calgary Flames in 1986. Had they done that, they may very well have won the Cup that year too.

The Oilers lost to the Flames in a very competitive 7 game series. In

Top Ten Things to Do in Calgary this Winter

When winter’s winds blow it isn’t all that tempting to go out and explore a city, but in Calgary there is so much to do that it becomes difficult to stay indoors!

Of course not all of the city’s top ten activities take place in the great and snowy outdoors, but they are all the more enjoyable because of the seasonal conditions. From January through March all of Calgary is bursting at the seams with great activities, and among the most preferred are:

1. Fireside dining – you don’t have to stay at home to enjoy a cozy meal beside the fire. There are many restaurants in Calgary that serve hearty fare in spaces gently lit and warmed by large fireplaces. Some have scenic views and park settings, while others are set on the areas lakes or rivers. Try such restaurants as the Q Haute, The Ranche, Newport Grill and River Café.

2. Salsa Dancing – there are literally dozens of dancing classes and schools in the city focusing on the highly active

Vancouver Canucks Tickets – Canucks Prove Playoff Viability In Long Road Trip

Could this be the year the Vancouver Canucks take home the coveted Stanley Cup Trophy? If their recent performance on a record-breaking road trip is any indication, it may be. The team set an NHL record for a 14-game streak of road games that began on Jan. 30 and ended on March 10, the longest streak of road games in league history. Road games make it notoriously difficult for teams to build momentum, but the Canucks responded brilliantly by coming away with a record of 8-5-1. The league took notice, leading to many analysts commending the performance and dissecting what it means for the playoffs.

The road trip saw the team crisscrossing North America, hitting spots as near as Montreal and as far away as Tampa Bay, Fla. and Phoenix, Ariz.  The National Hockey League’s website talked to the players about their favorite parts of the road trip, and Tanner Glass and Alex Burrows both agreed that their favorite city to visit was Chicago. Glass explained on the

Interesting Facts You May Not Know About Calgary

How much do you know about Calgary, Alberta? A little? A lot? Even if you live here, you might not know some of the interesting facts about this city and it’s history.

If you’re considering moving to Calgary, you might be confused by the street numbering system, which is done in quadrants. Did you know that until 1904, Calgary had street names instead of numbers? Some people wish the city had kept them and are lobbying for their return. Select neighbourhoods have both number and former name as a nod to the street names of over a century ago.

One of the streets of Calgary has gained notoriety as “The Red Mile”. After the 2003-2004 Calgary Flames Playoff run, a short stretch of 17th Avenue became the place for Flames fans to celebrate (or commiserate) after every game the Flames played.

The Calgary Flames didn’t begin in Calgary; they started out in Atlanta, Georgia and played there from 1972-1980 before their first game in

Calgary Flames V Calgary Stamps Tv Exposure

The Canadian Football League team saw complete changes on and off the field. The result? Well the city was abuzz, but does late NHL runs take away from CFL? Obviously, the game seven match of 2006 between Carolina and Edmonton coincided with season opener between the Stamps and the Edmonton Eskimos. This time it hurt, but historically, how have the Stamps and the Flames compared with it come to exposure and city support?

Well let’s take a look at the pros and cons of the both franchises. For starters, despite hockey holding a cornerstone in Canadian society, it is the Stampeders who hold a deep history with the city. The Flames came to the city in 1980 whereas the Stampeders have been here since 1935. A richer history which should give the edge to the Stamps.

Currently the Saddledome, where the Flames play, holds just under 20,000 whereas McMahon holds just under double at about 38,000. That’s double the people (if they all come out) to watch
